Port Tobacco watershed plan gets boost from town’s OK
Maryland Independent La Plata officials have adopted a plan that targets methods to revive the failing health of the Port Tobacco River watershed. The La Plata Town Council adopted the Port Tobacco River Watershed Restoration Action Plan last week. The plan, adopted by the Charles County commissioners in 2007, identifies ways to improve the watershed and bring it back to the pristine conditions found in the waterway prior to the 1950s.

Giant Opens in La Plata
The Charles County Commissioners joined officials from La Plata, as well as from the Southern Maryland Delegation, to celebrate the grand opening of the new Giant Supermarket at the corner of Rosewick Road and Route 301 in La Plata. The new store will serve residents of La Plata and the surrounding area and is a positive step toward easing congestion in the Waldorf area.

MAN CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE ASSAULT: On September 10 at 9 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 6100 block of Bivens Place in La Plata for the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, the victim - a 51 year old man – said the suspect, Kelvin Harvey Johnson, 45, of La Plata, pointed a shotgun at him and threatened to shoot him.
